Dewey Finn (School of Rock) Cartoon
This project was to build a cartoon character that would contain "hinges" that could later be used in animation.
Step 1: Basic Sketching: We started by finding a reference image and tracking out the shapes and proportions of the body in the selected pose, then exaggerated the proportions to make the character more cartoonish.

Step 2: Character Refinement: Once the new proportions had been decided, it was time to sketch things like clothing/accessories and facial features to fully develop the character.

Step 3: LineArt - Within Adobe Illustrator, I used my refined sketch as a template to create the outline of what the character would look like in the illustration.

Step 4: Color - Once the character was fully and properly built, color was applied from a limited color palette.

Step 5: Background Design - A classroom was designed to place Dewey in, incorporating various elements from the movie, such as the "History of Rock" chalkboard, and items regularly found in elementary school classrooms.

Step 6: Final character placement within the background - The classroom felt empty and uneven, even after moving the desk and drum set to various points in the room, so I ended up designing the kids to put in the background as well. All 5 characters are built with hinges for the possibility of later animation.
